Our doctors have recently gotten advanced credential awards from the prestigious International Congress of Oral Implantologists. Read the press release here for Dr. Boyer & here for Dr. Ji.

Implant Bridges

Bridges exist to connect one point to another. In the dentistry world, “bridges” work the same way, albeit in a much more dramatic manner.

If you are missing a tooth or teeth, your dentist connects the gap left by the missing tooth with a bridge, rendering your smile complete. A dental bridge is a false tooth (sometimes also called a pontic) held in place by the teeth on either side of the gap. Dental bridges are made of various materials, including gold, but for it to blend seamlessly with the rest of your healthy and existing teeth, porcelain is most commonly used.

Implant Bridges

There are at least four types of dental bridges. There’s the traditional, the cantilever, Maryland, and the implant-supported dental bridges.

Our dentist in Simi Valley will explain the implant-supported bridges; why it’s considered the most durable and most stable system among the four, and who needs it.

Implant-supported bridges

Implant-supported bridges are types of dental bridges that use, as the name implies, an implant to support the synthetic tooth. This is also the main reason it differs from any other three mentioned (which in contrast, use crowns and frameworks). Since this type of bridge requires a different base of support, it also involves a more complicated process.

Typically, to “install” an implant bridge will involve at least a couple of surgeries: one to embed the implants in the jawbone and a second one to place the bridge. And trust us, the actual process is less scary than it sounds.

Why do you need an Implant Bridge in the first place?

One may wonder why one would have to go through such an ordeal to get an implant bridge. It is a valid question and while your hesitations are valid, allow us to give you several reasons why you need to get one anyway:

  1. Restoring your smile — do you find yourself subject to mental torture because you lack self-confidence due to incomplete teeth? Undergoing this procedure might just help you get your complete smile back!
  2. Helps Improve Chewing Capabilities — For some, having implant bridges means more than just getting back their self-confidence, they need it to survive. This also allows one to have a wider choice of the type of food they eat because, without your teeth, you are basically confined to a specific kind of diet and food group.
  3. Restoring Speech and Pronunciation — as you’re aware, your mouth, including all its faculties, palate, tongue, lips, and yes, teeth, plays a huge role in allowing us to speak. For those who suffer speech problems due to lack of a few teeth, getting an implant bridge is helpful.

There are a few more ways getting an implant bridge can help a person, but the three mentioned above are among the most compelling ones.
